Laura’s friend “C.S.”, again. He seemed awfully eager to correspond with the young Ms. Peratt.

Letter 13 – A letter to an aging, sick mother
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Houchen always treated their daughter-in-law, Doris, as if she were their own daughter. Doris loved them strongly and her feelings can be seen and felt in this letter to them after hearing about Laura’s failing health.
Postcard 51 – Greetings from Mountain Air, New Mexico
September 1, 1910
Postcard 54 – Another Suitor?
I care not for the stars that shine,I dare not hope e’er be thine;Love me and the world is mine “Buster” writes to Laura in 1910. Of course her and Harold eventually married in 1916 but it’s interesting to see the cards that Laura saved.
Postcard 55 – A Beautiful Postcard
A friend of Laura, Trixie, sends a beautiful, glittery postcard. It did not translate when I scanned it so I took a video of it to hopefully showcase the original glitter.
Letter 12 – A cousin writes of Leonard’s death
One of Lula’s cousins write to announce the death of Leonard Prater. He died September 29 and this letter was written December 6. Amazing how slow news traveled in the olden days.
Letter 11 – A partial letter
Gram Ma Dennis writes and there is a note that says, “the Laura is mother’s name sake. I lost the rest of this letter. Is now the last one.”
Letter 10 – Does Leonard sense something?
The last letter that was posted was, what I believe, Leonard’s last letter to “Loulie” before he died. This was a few weeks earlier and I wonder if his correspondence was more frequent because he sensed something or he just wanted to get to know Lula better.
Letter 9 – Leonard’s last letter
Leonard Worthington Prater, Lula’s brother, writes to Lula about the health of her horse and going to prayer meeting. Her note at the bottom says that he became sick with Typhoid Fever and died 25 days later after getting sick. He passed on September 29, 1891. Her mother died shortly after this, too.
Letter 8 – July 3, 1891
I believe this is from Lula’s brother, Leonard. He passed away as a young man (19?). I find it sweet that Lula’s nickname seemed to be “Loulie” or some form of it. The last page was difficult to read so I increased the contrast.
